8-05-08 (GARFIELD COUNTY, CO)- Mike Samson announced today his intent to create what many municipal officials across Garfield County have longed for –a better way to communicate. Samson vowed the first agenda item for his tenure as Garfield County Commissioner will be to launch the Garfield County Municipal Forum.
“I was born in Glenwood but live in Rifle. I served on the Rifle City Council and I understand that the municipalities of Garfield County are diverse and that there are varying needs. Said Samson.” “Creating sound county policies must include input from all local governments in our jurisdiction.” “Who knows --we may just find out that we all have more in common than we think.”
When asked about what prompted the announcement, Samson noted that “there is a tremendous amount of wealth being created outside of the municipal boundaries in Garfield County. Finding sensible ways to put this money to good use means that as a commissioner I must fully understand what each town or city needs the most.” I’ve said from day one: my candidacy is based on creating an independent voice for Garfield County. And when I say Garfield County, I mean ALL of Garfield County”
Under Samson’s plan each municipality will have a representative at the forum meetings. The meetings will occur once per quarter. The host municipality will set the location and agenda and serve as the forum moderator. “My hope is to launch the forum in February of 2009 in Glenwood Springs. Beyond that, I seek input from the municipalities and elected officials as to how we want to make the forum work long-term. ” "I look forward to creating meaningful, working relationships with officials from all of Garfield County's municipalities," concluded Samson.
Samson will provide additional detail and a formal proposal in the coming months. He has reserved the domain: www.garfieldcountyforum.org for possible future use.
